Carlos Sainz set the fastest time on day two of Formula 1 pre-season testing as Ferrari offered an impressive response to Red Bull’s strong start in Bahrain.

After reigning world champion Max Verstappen had topped the timesheet by more than a second on the first of three days of testing in Sakhir, Sainz was 0.7s clear of the Dutchman’s Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez on Thursday.

While Sainz’s leading effort came on the softer – and theoretically faster – C4 tyre than the medium C3 compound used by Perez, the performance suggested Red Bull may not be quite as far ahead as they had seemed 24 hours earlier.

Lewis Hamilton, who like Perez drove in both of Thursday’s sessions having not driven on Wednesday, was third for Mercedes as he finished the best part of 0.4s back from the Red Bull.

Lando Norris was fourth for McLaren despite a fuel system issue costing the Brit valuable track time during an afternoon session that was extended after the opening period had to be suspended because of a loose drain cover on track.

Daniel Ricciardo rounded out a top five filled exclusively with times set in the cooler and faster conditions of the evening session, but like Sainz used the softer C4 tyre.

4 Key Defensive Free Agents Ravens Must Prioritize Signing

سایت ace90
سایت آس نود
سایت آس90

Although former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald was hired as the new head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, the organization will have to figure out which key free agents they need to prioritize. The Ravens had one of the top defensive units in the NFL as they were a huge reason why they were one victory away from a Super Bowl berth. The Ravens defense held opposing quarterbacks to the 5th lowest completion percentage, were tied for 1st in yards per attempt by opposing quarterbacks and ranked 2nd in the NFL in touchdown passes allowed. What was most impressive about the Ravens vaunted defense was that they allowed the fewest points per game at 16.5 and they also led the NFL in sacks with 60 total. With Macdonald taking the Seahawks job, there exists a strong possibility that some of the Ravens free agents could follow him to Seattle. But there also exists the possibility that some of these players will remain in Baltimore as inside linebackers coach Zach Orr was promoted as the Ravens new defensive coordinator. Since the hiring was done in house, there isn’t expected to be much change to the defensive scheme and Orr’s familiarity with the players strengths should help keep at least some of them in a Ravens jersey. As we approach the NFL’s free agency period in the coming weeks, let’s take a look at some of the players the Ravens should bring back.

Patrick Queen

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta must do everything in his power to keep the duo of Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith together. This was one of the best linebacker pairings in the league and both played huge roles as leaders. Smith led the team in total tackles with 158 and Queen was second on the team with 133. As the saying goes, iron sharpens iron and these 2 dynamic linebackers just made each other better. Queen brings an element of speed from his linebacker position and he also packs a punch for the Ravens pass rush. Being able to provide a frequent pass rush from the 2nd level of the defense is what made the Ravens unique and Queen was a major reason why. He has always shown flashes of potential since arriving in Baltimore but he played at another level last season as he developed consistency. His sideline to sideline pursuit of ball carriers was on an elite level and it appeared that Queen had a 6th sense about where a play was going. Signing Queen long term would solidify their linebacker corps for the next couple of seasons.

Justin Madubuike

It’s been one heck of a breakout season for Justin Madubuike. He led all NFL defensive linemen with 13 sacks, made his 1st Pro Bowl and was named to the NFL’s All-Pro 2nd Team. Madibuke also made history as he tied the NFL record with at least a half sack in 11 consecutive games. The interior pass rush is so important  in the NFL as it gives defenses schematical advantages if they can constantly bring pressure from the inside. Madibuke has drawn comparisons to future Hall of famer Aaron Donald and the Ravens have to prioritize getting him signed long term as he should be considered a foundational piece on the Ravens interior defensive line because pass rushing defensive tackles who can collapse the pocket are often difficult to find. He has been a menace for opposing offensive linemen and doesn’t mind doing the dirty work. Madibuke is fast, strong and plays with violent intentions and embodies what it means to be a Raven. He is so strong that he tosses offensive linemen like toys and if he adds more pass rush moves to his arsenal, he will be even more effective. Madibuke has a high motor and never gives up on plays. Explosiveness is a huge part of his game and that combined with added push moves could lead to another terrific season but hopefully it will be as a member of the Ravens.

Geno Stone

If any player on the Ravens defense earned and deserves a new contract it’s free safety Geno Stone. When the Ravens drafted Stone in the 7th round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the knock on him coming out of the University of Iowa was that he lacked ideal height for the position and that he also lacked top end speed. His positives was his high football IQ, being a strong downhill tackler and having a nose for the football. Stone is the perfect example of a player taking full advantage of an opportunity. He didn’t become a starter until Week 6 in his 3rd season when fellow teammate Marcus Williams went on injured reserve and hasn’t looked back since. Stone finished with 7 interceptions which was good for 2nd in the NFL. The main thing that makes this Ravens defense special are that their defensive back ups  at every position are used to playing as they have developed a true “next man up” mentality. They are not players who sit at the end of the bench and never expect to play. Stone benefitted from this as he just continued to develop and improve. A lot of defensive backs have instincts but can’t catch. Stone can do both as he seems to be a magnet to the football always being in the right position to make the big play. He understands that the Ravens can get to the quarterback quickly and keep him under duress and Stone realized that equals interception opportunities and just capitalized on what was an outstanding season. Stone is also adept at coming downhill and helping out with stopping the rushing attack. He is nimble for a safety but can be just as violent as a linebacker. He may be the odd man out since the Ravens already have a starter with Williams. Other teams may pursue Stone with lucrative deals that could lure him away. But there still exists a glimmer of hope that Stone could return depending on the volatility of the market. If all else fails, Stone could return to the Ravens on a one year, team friendly deal as a backup safety or nickel back role.

Jadeveon Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney has always been known as a force and opposing coaches are forced to diversify their game plan just to keep him under wraps. That’s the kind of effect Clowney has and the Ravens must decide whether bringing him back for another season is a priority or will they decide to go in another direction? Clowney normally doesn’t get a lot of sacks but this past season he tied his career high sack total with 9 and a half. Even though he is constantly double teamed, he can still get pressure on the quarterback and running backs have no chance if the play is run on the side of the field he is occupying. With the amount of talented players playing alongside Clowney in Baltimore, it only makes him better because opposing teams have to account for the other talent surrounding him and can’t just focus on solely stopping him. Playing on a team friendly, one year $2.5 million contract, it’s a real possibility Clowney returns for another run with this defense. By Clowney not trying to break the bank by commanding an absurd amount of money, it helps the Ravens front office by allowing them to focus on other key free agents.

San Francisco 49ers star Charvarius Ward already knows what it feels like to reach this stage.

The veteran cornerback already played in a Super Bowl when he was with the Kansas City Chiefs.

As a matter of fact, this will be the third time in his career he plays in one of those games, as he’s already won and lost a Super Bowl before.

Notably, Ward was on the winning squad when the Chiefs beat his current team four years ago.

However, when asked about his previous experience, he threw a little shade at his former organization, claiming that it’s much better to reach this stage with the Niners than it was with the Chiefs (via 95.7 The Game).

“It’s better over here.  [In] every way,” Ward said.

Truth be told, Ward has fared better since taking his talents to the Bay area as a free agent.

He signed a three-year deal in 2022, and he made an immediate impact.

He’s coming off logging 72 total tackles and a career-best five interceptions this season, including his first career touchdown with on a pick-six.

He played under Andy Reid for four years after signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State.

Needless to say, he’s pretty familiar with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense, and he’ll look to show his former team what they missed when they let him walk away.

This will be one of the biggest storylines of the ultimate game, and it’ll be interesting to see who gets the last laugh this time.

Report: Raiders hiring Kliff Kingsbury as offensive coordinator

سایت آس90

HENDERSON, Nev. — The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring former Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury to be their offensive coordinator, a person informed of the decision told The Associated Press on Thursday night.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been finalized.

This is the first major hire for new Raiders coach Antonio Pierce, who had the interim tag removed Jan. 19. Kingsbury will be in charge of trying to turn around a Las Vegas offense that was 27th this season yards per game (289.5) and 23rd in scoring (19.5-point average).

The Raiders also will have a decision to make at quarterback. Rookie Aidan O’Connell went 5-4 after being handed the job, but questions remain whether he has the ability to lead the Raiders into and deep in the playoffs.

“There hasn’t been a lot of years I’ve been the unquestioned starter going in, so I’m used to competing,” O’Connell said last week.

The Raiders pick 13th in this year’s quarterback-deep draft, but the top names likely will be gone by the time Las Vegas’ spot comes up.

Kingsbury, 44, spent this past season at USC as an offensive analyst working with quarterback Caleb Williams, who many project will be drafted first overall. Before that, Kingsbury went 28-37-1 over four seasons as the Cardinals’ coach.

Arizona went 11-6 in 2021 and made the playoffs, but the Cardinals suffered several major injuries the following season and finished 4-13, resulting in Kingsbury’s dismissal. The firing came just 10 months after the Cardinals signed him to a contract extension.

In addition to Kingsbury, the Raiders interviewed former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, Cincinnati Bengals quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher, Pittsburgh Steelers QB coach Mike Sullivan and ex-Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.

آس 90 : The Career and Legacy of Baron “B.B.” Flenory

The Career and Legacy of Baron "B.B." Flenory

سایت ace90
سایت آس نود
سایت آس90

Before I dive into the amazing career and legacy of B.B. Flenory, I want to share the great conversation I had with him on my podcast, Total Sports Recall. He is one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, and it was a pleasure to have him on the show.

The city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, used to have a professional basketball team from 1967 to 1972 that went by two names. They were the Pipers and then renamed to the Condors. They played in the old American Basketball Association (ABA) which eventually folded. There hasn’t been a pro team since. So, when it comes to basketball in the Steel City, talk is typically about the University of Pittsburgh Panthers or Duquesne University and the Dukes.

There is also plenty of great high school basketball so in Pittsburgh if you are talking about great players that came from the city, one might first mention Norm Nixon who played at Duquesne, then had a fine career with the Los Angeles Lakers. Billy Knight might come to mind as he starred at Pitt and then played in the NBA. But the most common, popular name, and perhaps the best basketball player ever in the city of Pittsburgh would be Baron “B.B.” Flenory.

B.B. Flenory began his basketball stardom in Pittsburgh by playing for Ridge Avenue Junior High School where he once scored 81 points in one game. That performance landed him in Sports Illustrated Magazine as part of the “Faces in the Crowd” column. In that season at Ridge Avenue Junior High, B.B. Flenory averaged 50.2 points per game.

While he was still in junior high, Flenory was offered a scholarship to play ball and attend Robert Louis Stevenson Prep School in Pebble Beach, California. But wanting to stay close to home so his parents could watch him play, Flenory stayed in school in Pittsburgh and attended Valley High School where he got his education and his time on the court.

At Valley, Flenory set the school’s single game scoring record of 52 points and four times scored over 40. For his years there, he scored 1,896 points. He accomplished that in just three seasons since freshman were not permitted to play on the varsity team. At Valley High School, B.B. Flenory was an A-K scoring champion and in multiple instances was named to the All-Section team as well as being named Section Most Valuable Player in not just his junior season but for his senior year as well.

Flenory was named to the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic League (WPIAL) first team all-state by the UPI and AP for both his junior and senior seasons. In his senior season, he was named the M.V.P. for the state of Pennsylvania. The very famous Parade All-American team placed Flenory on that team in his senior season making B.B. Flenory just one of 13 basketball players from Western Pennsylvania to ever receive that honor.

In Pittsburgh there used to be an annual tournament called the “Dapper Dan Roundball Classic” which B.B. Flenory played in several times. It would pit a Pennsylvania team of all-stars against an all-star team made up of players from around the United States. In one game of that tournament, Flenory scored 25 points to lead all scorers.

During his junior season Valley High School was ranked fifth in the country and that team was voted by area coaches as the greatest team in Allegheny-Kiski Valley area history. After a historic high school career, Flenory wanted to play ball in college at West Virginia University but instead stayed close to his parents by accepting a scholarship to play with Norm Nixon at Duquesne University his freshman year.

While playing for the Dukes, Flenory scored over 40 points twice. When he faced West Virginia University, his first choice school, Flenory scored 48 points in their coliseum establishing a new record for that facility and subsequently being named Sports Illustrated’s Player of the Week. West Virginia also had a tournament named the “West Virginia Mountaineer Classic” where Flenory scored 41 points in the first round of one tournament and then followed that up with another 48 in the championship game thus the 89 points scored became a tournament record and Flenory was named M.V.P.

While playing for Duquesne, B.B. Flenory was named to Atlantic 10’s first-team in both his junior and senior seasons. Flenory led the league in scoring during his junior season while averaging 21 points per game. Flenory is the only player in Duquesne basketball history to lead the team in scoring and assists in three straight seasons. The last time the Dukes made the NCAA March madness tournament was in 1977 and BB Flenory started for Duquesne in those playoffs as a freshman. B.B. was named captain of the team his senior year, and their team was invited to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

In 1980, B.B. Flenory was called for a tryout with the Boston Celtics. Of the rookies invited to training camp, Flenory was the final cut among other rookies. He explains that it wasn’t a case of him not being a good enough player but the competition to make the roster was at the highest level. The rookies that did make the team were none other than Larry Bird and Gerald Henderson. But also, on that roster were some very impressive names. Tiny Archibald, M.L. Carr, Don Chaney, Dave Cowens, Chris Ford, Cedric Maxwell, Rick Robey, and the great Pete Maravich. That talent was just too rich with some of these men eventually ending up in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

One of B.B. Flenory’s highest honors came in 2010 when he was inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame. Even more impressive is the fact that the Pittsburgh Basketball Club has created a new award named in his honor which will be the “BB Flenory Guard of the Year Award” and goes to the top high school guard in Western Pennsylvania. When asked about this honor B.B. said:

“I am really humbled and honored to have an award named after me. That may sound like the company line. I have received a lot of awards in my lifetime, but I have never received one as special as this. My legacy will live on and on for my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. I began playing basketball in 3rd grade and this is one of the highlights of my life. In 1968 Valley had a great team and won the section championship and that’s when I knew that basketball was going to be my game.”

In New Kensington, Pennsylvania where B.B. Flenory grew up and played his basketball on community courts, there will be a court built in his honor. On Barnes Street in New Kensington there will be court number “15” the jersey number Flenory wore while in high school.

There have been numerous honors in B.B. Flenory’s life. In 2016, he was voted onto a team made up of 26 other players that were Duquesne University’s “All-Century” team. Flenory said, “I was glad the fans voted for me. It shows the fans from New Kensington and Pittsburgh remember B.B., and I appreciate it.”

So, anyone currently living in Pittsburgh, those who grew up in this great city, mention high school and college basketball and the name B.B. Flenory will absolutely come into the conversation. The name Flenory is synonymous with basketball in the Steel City. All the honors and accolades are well deserved. Basketball fans like me from Pittsburgh who had the opportunity to see B.B. Flenory play will remember well his flashy skills, his ball handling capabilities, and his all-around showmanship personality.

These days Flenory is a Transition Specialist at the Pressley Ridge School in Pittsburgh where he helps troubled and mentally challenged youths. Flenory also runs his own basketball camps and is the Vice President of the “Willie Thrower Foundation” that honors the memory of the former NFL quarterback, the first African American quarterback to play in the National Football League.

The Indian cricket team aims to secure their maiden Test series victory in South Africa when they face the Proteas in a two-match Test series commencing on December 26th (Boxing Day) at the Centurion. The next test match will mark the debut of captain Rohit, experienced batsman Virat Kohli, and key fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah following their defeat in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

India concluded the ODI series with a 2-1 victory despite playing with a less experienced team after drawing the T20I leg of their South Africa visit. They are optimistic that their success in limited-overs cricket will carry over to the game’s longer format as they aim to achieve their first-ever Test series win in South Africa.

India has been visiting South Africa since the 1992-93 season, although they have been unsuccessful in winning a Test series. In the 2010-11 season, the Proteas came close to winning but ultimately drew the penultimate match, resulting in a 1-1 tie for the three-match Test series.

India vs South Africa Test Series History (In South Africa)

Series  Year  Winner & Series Score
India in South Africa (Test Series)  1992/93 South Africa wins series 1-0 (4)
India in South Africa (Test Series) 1996/97 South Africa wins series 2-0 (3)
India in South Africa (Test Series) 2001/02 South Africa wins series 1-0 (2)
India in South Africa (Test Series) 2006/07 South Africa wins series 2-1 (3)
India in South Africa (Test Series) 2010/11 Drawn 1-1 (3)
India in South Africa (Test Series) 2013/14 South Africa wins series 1-0 (2)
India in South Africa (Freedom Trophy) 2017/18 South Africa wins series 2-1 (3)
India in South Africa (Freedom Trophy) 2021/22 South Africa wins series 2-1 (3)

South Africa vs Indian Freedom Trophy Test Series 2023/24: Team Updates

Several senior members not included in the white-ball teams have returned for the Test series. Rohit Sharma, who experienced heartache in the 2023 World Cup final, is set to play his first international game as the team’s leader since then. Ishan Kishan has opted out of the series due to personal circumstances, resulting in KS Bharat being selected as his successor. The development occurred within 48 hours following Mohammed Shami’s exclusion from the tour due to his ankle issue.

India has suffered another setback as Ruturaj Gaikwad has been out from the Test series owing to a fractured finger, which is expected to require approximately five weeks for recovery.

Temba Bavuma, who was given a break during the ODI series, will resume his role as the leader of the South African team. However, it is unclear if Kagiso Rabada can play, even though he has been included in the squad.

The left-arm seamer Nandre Burger, who performed exceptionally well in the limited-overs matches, has been selected for his first Test match, along with batsman David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs. Additionally, wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynee has been brought back into the team. Dean Elgar, the ex-South Africa skipper, has officially declared his retirement, making this series his final appearance.

SA vs. IND Test Series 2023/24: Predictions and Odds

In 2021, during their most recent tour to Centurion, India emerged victorious in the Test match held at SuperSport Park, marking the beginning of their series with a triumph. However, they subsequently suffered defeats in matches held at Newlands and the Wanderers.

There is no doubt about the excellence of India’s fast bowlers, but they must also be cautious about their over-rates while relying largely on their quicks.

South Africa had emerged victorious in eight out of their previous nine Test matches at SuperSport Park. However, the defeat against India stands out as an exception. The opening duo of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal played a crucial role in the first stages of the contest.

Betting odds from the recommended bookies in India have released prices for the first test series match on December 26:

South Africa [2.72]

Indian [2.36]

Regardless of how powerful the SuperSport Park wicket appears, the team that wins the toss will almost surely begin batting first.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin’s versatility could give India a significant batting depth advantage over South Africa, which relies heavily on specialists.

Injury concerns also plague South Africa’s premier fast bowlers, as Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi have missed the white-ball series due to nagging ailments.

And for these reasons, we believe the sportsbooks are correct in placing India as the betting favourite.
