آس 90 : Dodgers’ trade for Tyler Glasnow helps club solidify starting rotation

Dodgers’ trade for Tyler Glasnow helps club solidify starting rotation

سایت ace90
سایت آس نود
سایت آس90

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed the best free agent ever earlier this week. But even that didn’t address their biggest need.

The club inked Shohei Ohtani to a record 10-year deal, yet because he’s not expected to pitch until 2025, the Dodgers needed to bolster their starting rotation, which had taken successive hits in recent seasons. Thursday’s trade for right-hander Tyler Glasnow, which isn’t yet official, accomplishes that, adding a frontline starter to the fold.

Here’s a closer look at the deal as reported and what it means.

The deal: Tampa Bay Rays traded right-hander Tyler Glasnow and outfielder Manuel Margot to the Los Angeles Dodgers for right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfielder Jonny Deluca. The Dodgers and Glasnow then reportedly agreed to an extension worth $135 million over five years.

The runners-up: Glasnow had been mentioned in trade rumours for months, with the Angels, Reds and Cubs among clubs linked to him.

The player: Glasnow is the headliner of the trade, so we’ll focus on him. The 30-year-old right-hander possesses one of the most promising arms in the game but has yet to put together a full season due to several injuries. However, despite missing the first two months of the 2023 season with an oblique injury, Glasnow clearly found his form.

The right-hander posted a 3.53 ERA and 2.91 FIP over 21 starts and 120 innings this past season — both career highs. He produced a monster 33.4 per cent strikeout rate, which placed him in the 97 percentile of major leaguers, and generated a career-high 3.2 wins above replacement, per FanGraphs.

Glasnow underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in 2021, and the sense now is that his arm is fully recovered and primed for success. The Dodgers certainly believe so, evidenced by the reported contract the club doled out to him.

The fit: The Dodgers’ rotation endured a major blow in late 2022 when right-hander Walker Buehler underwent Tommy John surgery. Then, during the 2023 season, right-hander Julio Urias (who’s now a free agent) was placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball after he was arrested on suspicion of felony domestic violence. Long-time ace Clayton Kershaw was injured and ineffective down the stretch and, as a result of all that attrition, the Dodgers’ rotation was exposed during a NL Division Series sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Glasnow adds certainty to the team’s rotation picture and with Buehler set to return next season, the Dodgers appear to be in great shape. Add Ohtani to the mound mix beyond that, and we’re looking at a scary collection of arms on a team that has made the post-season in each of the last 11 years.

The next domino: Japanese right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto is the most coveted starter on the free agent market and the Dodgers were reportedly a primary suitor prior to this trade. It’s unclear how the deal for Glasnow impacts that, but it’s worth noting that Ohtani appeared at the organization’s meeting with Yamamoto.

آس 90 : Weight Management for eSports Players

Weight Management for eSports Players

سایت ace90
سایت آس نود
سایت آس90

Back in 2020, we made some eSports predictions. At that juncture, Overwatch League viewing figures had fallen by 34,000 since 2019, down from 97,168 to 63,505. The recent Finals in Toronto this October also showed a drop in ratings from the year prior – however, this time round, a viewership of 157,600 represented a decline from 216,000 in 2022. While there are still fairly dramatic peaks and troughs, the overall trend in the 2020s is that eSports are on the rise.

We were perhaps right in saying that eSports will continue to focus on the ‘giants’ – the games that have stayed relevant for years, and in some cases over a decade – 47 of the 50 top-earning players play 2013’s Dota 2 to the exclusion of almost everything else. The Top 20 games look almost identical to 2020, with only the new versions of beat-em-up franchises like Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear providing much in the way of new arenas for competition.

With the action focused on a narrow range of games, the elite players live at the margins. Any sort of advantage, no matter how miniscule, must be grabbed to have the best chance for success.

A fairly big one is looking after the physical body. There’s a misconception that video gamers don’t need to be fit as they’re sitting down and playing games. Is that true? Let’s take a look.

Losing Weight for eSports

There are many stereotypes about competitive gamers. Most are unflattering. Perhaps the one that’s stuck around the hardest is the South Park image of the overweight player who the boys have to beat in World Of Warcraft. However, as with many stereotypes, there’s often a grain of truth in there. 2020 saw the retirement of Jian Zihao – one of League Of Legends best-ever players. Uzi, as he was known, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and told by medics he had the ‘arms of a 40 or 50-year-old’ aged just 23. When reaction times in competitive gaming can be measured to thousandths of a second, it’s likely Uzi’s performance, as well as his health, would have suffered had he kept competing.

Some players who clock in with a BMI way over 30 – the definition of obesity – may choose to go down the medical weight loss route. As with any course of medication, this should be discussed with a professional before embarking. It’s increasingly common to be prescribed off label weight loss drugs. Ozempic, which has been hailed as a boost for those looking to lose weight, is currently only FDA-approved as a treatment for type 2 diabetes. In the US, medicines sometimes have to be off label because of the complexities of the healthcare insurance system. Contrave is a weight loss drug made from a combination of naltrexone and bupropion. Those two drugs are relatively commonly covered by insurance, but Contrave is not, so a medic may prescribe those two with dosing instructions to gain the same effects as the branded pills.

Weight Maintenance

Weight management for eSports players can be taxing. The activity is mainly sedentary, and while some pro teams have dedicated fitness programs, those may require a level of base fitness before starting. Crash diets don’t work. They’re even less likely to work when having to be built around an activity that takes up a lot of time when reaching for a snack, and getting back to the screen takes priority over preparing something healthy. There is some evidence that gaming does burn calories, although there’s also a correlation that irregular sleep patterns – sometimes necessary when tournaments span time zones – can interfere with hormone production, leading to increased appetite and feeling less full even after eating.

Successful weight management plans are tailored around an individual’s lifestyle. As eSports become more mainstream – which they slowly but surely are – it’s likely that more knowledge and best practices will come to light. It’s true to say that eSports may be a young player’s game just now. However, that isn’t true of all gaming – the average age of the American gamer is 35. As the pros start to age, expect to see them take an interest in avoiding middle-age spread.

آس 90 : Historical NFL Blowouts Revisited | Abstract Sports

Historical NFL Blowouts Revisited | Abstract Sports

سایت ace90
سایت آس نود
سایت آس90

In pro football, there are blowouts on the field and there are complete wipeouts. In NFL history there have been three teams who put up 70 points or more on an opponent in one single game. What follows are the five highest-scoring games by one team in NFL history.

Perhaps the worst defeat any team could suffer took place in no less than the NFL championship game. The date was December 8, 1940, and the Washington Redskins with their 9-2 record and winners of the Eastern Conference were playing the 8-3 Chicago Bears for the NFL title. To add insult to injury the Redskins were playing on their home turf. Washington not only lost the game, but they also got their doors blown off losing 73-0. The legendary George Halas was coaching the Bears and Ray Flaherty was the head coach in Washington.

The Bears put up 21 points in the opening quarter and never took their foot off the gas pedal scoring again before the half and adding 26 more points in the third quarter before closing the show with 19 more in the final quarter. 36,034 had to watch the massacre. Red Barber called the game and, in the end, Chicago hit the end zone 11 times. To add to the embarrassment, the game was the first NFL title game to be broadcast from coast to coast.

Some of the big scoring plays in that game included a 68-yard run by Bill Osmanski. A 42-yard run to paydirt by Joe Maniaci, Sid Luckman’s 30-yard pass for a score to Ken Kavanaugh, and a 44-yard run for a score from Harry Clarke. Chicago also scored three times on interceptions to the house by Hamp Pool (15 yards), Geroge McAfee (35 yards), and Bulldog Turner who picked off Hall of Famer Sammy Baugh and returned it 20 yards to the end zone.

The next time an NFL team scored 70 or more points was ironically turned in by the Washington Redskins. 26 years after getting smoked by the Chicago Bears, the ‘Skins turned it on in a game against the New York Giants. This time, however, the losing team was not shut out. In fact, the Giants scored 41 points which in a normal game would most likely result in a victory.

That might be true if the Redskins hadn’t scored 72 points to win 72-41. At halftime of this game, the score was 34-14 so the Giants were in striking distance and kept the score within a 20-point differential after three quarters but in the final stanza, Washington scored 24 points to New York’s 13 making it the 72-41 final.

Heading into the game, New York had won just one game, tied one, and lost nine times. The Redskins left this game with a 6-6 record. In the game, there were eight scoring plays going for 40 yards or more. The longest scoring play was a 74-yard pass and catch from Sonny Jurgensen to Charley Taylor. A.D. Whitfield ran 63 yards for a score for Washington. The game was played at the District of Columbia Stadium with Giants Coach Allie Sherman and for Washington, it was former quarterback great Otto Graham.

The only other time an NFL team scored 70 points was by the Los Angeles Rams on October 22, 1950, as the victims were the Baltimore Colts who lost that game by a score of 70-27. At this point in the 1950 season, Baltimore had yet to win a game, losing their first four while the Rams came into this game sporting a 3-2 record. In the vast confines of the L.A. Coliseum, only 16,025 attended this blowout.

The Rams scored in every quarter putting up 21, 14, 14, and 21 points in the first through fourth quarters respectively. The score after one quarter was just 21-13 Los Angeles but then they put their foot to the gas pedal and never looked back. The Rams had several star players who shined on this day including Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirsch who scored first for the Rams on a 58-yard pass from Glenn Davis.

Norm Van Brocklin was the Los Angeles quarterback on this day completing 11 of 14 passes and throwing two touchdown passes. On the ground, L.A. finished with 188 yards rushing using nine different players with Glenn Davis having the highest total of 51 yards. Davis was the “Mr. Inside” portion of the famous Army duo paired with “Mr. Outside” Doc Blanchard.

The Rams threw two interceptions, one by Van Brocklin and the other from the arm of Bob Waterfield. Despite only scoring 27 points, Adrian Burk of the Colts threw three touchdown passes but also three touchdown passes but also three picks with Y.A. Tittle adding another.

The fourth highest scoring game in NFL history by one team took place by the Rams again this time making the Detroit Lions red-faced with a 65-20 beat down. This game was also in 1950 and it came on the road for L.A. Following the blowout of Baltimore, the Rams would win five of the final six including the large margin victory over Detroit.

It was a great season in 1950 for the Rams that ended in disappointment when they lost the NFL title game to the Cleveland Browns 20-28. But along the way to get to the championship they were destroying teams scoring the 70 on Baltimore, and 65 against the Lions, but also defeating the Boston Yanks in game two by a score of 45-28, then the 49ers 35-14, Green Bay 45-14, the Yanks again 43-35, and in the final regular season game beating Green Bay 51-14. For the season, the Rams averaged 38.8 points per game to lead the NFL.

Finally, to round out the top five highest scoring games by one team in NFL history was the game played on November 13, 1949, when the then Chicago Cardinals were playing a team out of New York called the “Bulldogs” with the game taking place at the old Polo Grounds. Buddy Park’s Cardinals put up 31 points alone in the second quarter against the Bulldogs coached by Charley Ewart.

The great Charley Trippi scored first for Chicago and teammate Pat Harder added two more touchdowns rushing and a field goal. Bobby Layne, who would become famous at quarterback in Detroit and for the Pittsburgh Steelers was the New York quarterback on this day. Layne would finish the game with 213 yards passing. For Harder, he ran for 117 yards on 13 carries. Being both the running back and kicker, Harder kicked the PAT on his rushing touchdown. He would have a total of eight PATs on the day giving him 23 points scored in the game.

There have been plenty of high-scoring games in the NFL but these five featured the most points scored by one team ever.

Update: upon publishing of this article, all of the above remained true. Immediately after publishing, the Miami Dolphins absolutely ROLLED the Denver Broncos 70-20, putting up the second most points by an NFL team in history. It’s the most points scored by a team since 1966! How’s that for uncanny timing?

The San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

It was a no-brainer choice for the Spurs, as Wembanyama is expected to become the face of the NBA in the future.

While Wembanyama has yet to even play a single NBA game, everyone is already praising the French phenom.

San Antonio Spurs veteran Zach Collins recently shared his views on playing alongside Victor Wembanyama via Tom Orsborn on Twitter.

“It’s a lot of fun. He’s so versatile.” Collins said.

Wembanyama is 7’4″ and tall guys are usually expected to play inside the paint.

But the French superstar has a knack for shooting from long distance, as he has showcased many times in his short career.

As for Collins, he loves playing alongside Wembanyama due to his versatility.

While Collins did praise his rookie teammate, he mentioned he’s not a one-dimensional player either.

Collins believes he can shoot as well while running the floor and hitting the open man.

It’s this versatility that makes the Collins-Wembanyama duo scary ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Can Wembanyama lead the Spurs back to playoffs?

That should be the 19-year-old’s number one priority heading into his first season in the NBA.

Brett Favre will testify under oath in Mississippi welfare scandal civil case

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre will answer questions under oath about the misspending of federal welfare money in Mississippi, where public money intended to help some of the nation’s poorest people was used to fund pet projects he and other well-connected people supported.

A notice of deposition filed Monday in Hinds County Circuit Court by attorneys for Mississippi’s Department of Human Services shows Favre will give sworn testimony on Oct. 26 at a hotel in Hattiesburg. The NFL Hall of Famer is among more than three dozen defendants in a lawsuit the current Human Services director filed to recover some of the welfare money.

Favre has denied wrongdoing, sued the state auditor who investigated the misspending for defamation and said he paid back misspent welfare funds.

Mississippi has ranked among the poorest states in the U.S. for decades, but only a fraction of its federal welfare money has been going toward direct aid to families. Instead, the Mississippi Department of Human Services allowed well-connected people to fritter away $77 million in federal welfare funds from 2016 to 2019, according to the state auditor and state and federal prosecutors.

Instead of going to needy families, about $5 million helped fund a volleyball arena that Favre supported at his alma mater, the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, said Mississippi Auditor Shad White, whose office investigated the scandal. Favre’s daughter played volleyball at the school. Another $1.7 million went to the development of a concussion treatment drug, a project Favre supported.

No criminal charges have been brought against Favre, although a former department director and other people have pleaded guilty to their part in the misspending. Favre has asked the Hinds County Circuit Court and the Mississippi Supreme Court to remove him as a defendant in the civil lawsuit, but both requests were denied.

The deposition will be conducted by oral examination before a court reporter and may be video-recorded. A confidentiality order approved by the court would keep all of the testimony private for at least 30 days after its completion date, court records show.

Dan Orlovsky Makes A Clear Statement About Josh Allen

Quarterback Josh Allen #17 of the Buffalo Bills warms up

The Buffalo Bills didn’t start the season on a high note.

They lost a game they should’ve won, facing a New York Jets team that didn’t have Aaron Rodgers on the field.

Josh Allen wasn’t particularly at his best, throwing three interceptions and losing one of two fumbles.

Unsurprisingly, that has led to some major criticism over the past couple of days, which is why former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky believes it’s time someone sits down with him.

In the latest edition of ESPN’s Get Up, Orlovsky urged someone to look Allen dead in the eye and ask him to grow up.

Allen is pressing and trying to do too much or make a statement on every single dropback, and that’s costing his team more often than not.

Nonetheless, as bad as Allen has been because of his erratic decision-making, Orlovsky also went in his defense by stating that some of the criticism has been ‘absolutely ludacris.’

Orlovsky also called him a top-three quarterback in the NFL and stated that the Bills can definitely win a Super Bowl with him at the helm.

Allen has all the skills and physical traits to be a perennial MVP candidate, and saying that the Bills can’t win with him is a huge reach.

Likewise, he’s also been the reason why they’ve lost games they should’ve won, and it’s time he realizes he’s not doing his team any favors.
