Thursday was a special day for Shohei Ohtani as he helped lead the Los Angeles Angels to a doubleheader sweep over the Detroit Tigers.

Ohtani threw a one-hit shutout in the first game of the doubleheader and hit two home runs in the second game.

Tigers right-hander Matt Manning allowed the first home run, which was a two-run shot to left field.

After the game, Manning had some very high praise for Ohtani, expressing how impressed he was to see the two-way star have two exceptional games against the Tigers.

Jason Beck, who covers the Tigers for MLB.com, tweeted what Manning had to say about Ohtani.

Manning said that Ohtani had “the greatest day of baseball that anyone has ever seen.”

Thursday certainly was an entertaining show put on by Ohtani as he dominated the Tigers on the mound in the first game before hitting two home runs in the second game.

Manning also said that he was proud of himself for not shying away from Ohtani, even when he fell behind in the count.

The young right-hander chose to attack Ohtani rather than pitch around him.

Ultimately, he got beat, but he offered more praise to Ohtani for being able to put together a tough at-bat against him.

Manning said that all he could do at that point was tip his cap to one of the greatest players in the game.

The Tigers have had a season to forget up to this point.

They own a 46-57 record entering Friday’s slate of games.
